Proofreading1 & Copyediting2: $50/hour
Book & Substantive Editing3: $75/hour

1. Checking
for spelling errors and major punctuation and grammar mistakes; making sure nothing has “dropped off” a page during revisions and seeing to it that indicated changes have been made

2. Making
style decisions such as how words or phrases should appear (e.g., in quotes, italics, capitalized, etc.); making sure documents adhere to client style guides; reading for grammar and usage that are matters of professional opinion and/or taste such as phrasing and word placement; reading for content to make sure all copy meets four criteria: completeness, correctness, consistency and accuracy

3. Strategic thinking regarding structure and organization, tone, and major syntactical structures used such as active versus passive voice, nominalizations and compound-complex sentence structure; consideration of rhetorical impact and orientation to audience, purpose and use

4. I write press releases, newsletters, Web copy and various other forms of marketing collateral.
